Stroke Rehabilitation Physiotherapy
Recovering from a stroke can affect balance, movement, coordination, and confidence in everyday life. At York Physio & Health, all of our stroke rehabilitation care is fully physiotherapist-led, meaning you receive expert clinical guidance, individual adaptations, and evidence-based treatment in every single session. We work closely with you to understand your specific challenges and build a personalised plan to help you regain function, build confidence, and stay as independent as possible.
How Stroke Affects Movement & How Physio Helps
- Understanding Stroke Symptoms: After a stroke, people often experience weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, muscle stiffness, poor balance, and difficulty with everyday tasks like walking, standing up, or getting dressed.
- Neuroplasticity & Relearning Movement: Stroke recovery relies on repetition and the brain's ability to relearn movement patterns. Practising targeted exercises regularly helps rebuild skills affected by stroke.
- Recognising a Stroke (Act FAST): A stroke is a medical emergency. Always remember FAST: Face (facial weakness), Arms (arm weakness), Speech (slurred speech), and Time (call 999 immediately).
